Multi-RAT support for sensor measurements

In November and early December 2021, the final demonstration of the Surrey Platform IoT use case took place in the building of the University of Surrey 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC), which is the host of the Surrey Platform. Within the context of this use case, 30 Pycom/Pysense boards were deployed in the 5GIC building.

The experiment consisted of reading sensor values and sending them –in JSON format– relying on various protocols, namely HTTP, MQTT and CoAP, through WiFi and 5G, with the use of a CPE device, to an IoT-vGW, developed by INFOLYSiS partner.

For the purpose of this use case, two slices were spinned-off by the 5GENESIS Slice Manager and at the same time the 5GIC NOC system created these two slices at the 5GC using two separate APNs to support the end-to-end service.

NCSRD IIT Newsletter reports 5G activities in 5GENESIS Athens platform:

The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications (IIT), NCSRD, dedicates in its newsletter the month of October to 5G Networks. The workshop “5G Trials in Europe: 5G Experimentation Facilities and Vertical Trials: Current Status and Future Perspectives” and the 5G!Drones Athens Trials are core topics of this newsletter. The workshop was successfully organised by the Media Networks Laboratory (MNL) on Wednesday 14 October, between 9:00-15:00 CEST, in the frame of H2020 projects 5GENESIS and 5G!Drones with the support of the 5G-PPP partnership. It was attended online by almost 100 participants. On 19-21 October 2020 in the frame of the 5G!Drones project, MNL’s researcher Dr. Harilaos Koumaras along with international consortium partners, i.e. Cosmote, HEPTA, CAFA Tech, robots.expert, Municipality of Egaleo and INFOLYSiS conducted technical flight trials with drones in 5G network at the Stavros Mavrothalassitis municipal stadium of Egaleo and at Cosmote Academy. 5G!Drones Athens Trials over the 5GENESIS Athens platform (Efgaleo Stadium & Cosmote Academy)

Dr Harilaos Koumaras, scientific responsible for Media Networks Laboratory’s H2020 project 5G!Drones, along with representatives from partners Cosmote, HEPTA, CAFA Tech, robots.expert, Municipality of Egaleo and INFOLYSiS conducted technical flight trials with drones in 5G network at the Stavros Mavrothalassitis municipal stadium of Egaleo, on 19-20 October 2020 and on Cosmote Academy premises,on 21 October 2020, in Athens, both locations being part of the 5GENESIS Athens platform..

Athens Innovation Festival (Nov 12-14)

INFOLYSIS participated in the Athens Innovation Festival where it had the chance to describe and communicate 5GENESIS project, its objectives and characteristics, as part of 5G ecosystem, through INFOLYSIS booth to audience and companies related to media, health and telecommunication technologies/services.
